I'm actually quite balanced in my politics but everything in the United States is so right wing that by comparison to them, a lot of people assume I'm some kind of radical left-wing nut. That's really more a reflection of how public perception of politics has drifted in the United States than it is on me.
The middle class has been wrecked over the past few decades by a lot of factors from deindustiralization to inflation to minimum wage stagnation to broken housing markets and healthcare systems.
Elizabeth Warren wrote about the “two-income trap” which is basically, once women started going to the workforce en masse, corporations simply raised the cost of everything so they captured all the value of that labor, and now two incomes are needed to sustain the same standard of living that one income used to be able to do.
Almost all of the wealth created over the past few decades has been redistributed upward to the top 1%. Time to undo that.
