Every other country that calls itself a democracy has simple majority rule. It is not difficult to understand or implement. It doesn’t result in minorities being oppressed. All it does is make losing parties more responsive to the message elections send.
The “filibuster,” on the other hand, incentivizes obstructionism no matter what, and already has significant exceptions (some introduced by McConnell himself), and needs more, if we’re not going to abolish it — which we should.
If Republicans win a majority of votes? (Popular votes — real votes — not gerrymandered BS votes where they divide-and-conquer the other party’s voters to win 40% of the electorate but still claim 60% of the seats?)
Then yes, they should hold power. That’s what democracy means.
