That’s not what the law did. The debt was Disney’s to pay. Now it belongs to the respective districts. While there may be Disney owned buildings that such public services operate out of that Disney may have to expend the cost to modify up to code; these costs are more easily off-set than the costs the taxpayers will pay.
For Disney to specifically pay for these debts, DeSantis would essentially have to put the Rock Creek back as a special district and admit that his move was dumb and actually does nothing to directly financially hurt or make Disney more accountable.
Much as DeSantis and the state representatives didn’t know how the special district status worked, they barely understand that it was already illegal to have any “creepy freak talking to kindergartener’s about sex”. The Parental Rights Bill bans the discussion of orientation and gender identity thus expanding what was already illegal to include discrimination against trans and homosexuals. Adults and children.
These recent and hasty decisions by Florida Republicans to put populist policies over the good and fiscally responsible as well as take cheap political swings in favor of discriminatory policies have uncontrovertibly proved to any reasonable person that they’re just as dumb as the typical “Florida man”.
And anyone who wants to emulate “Florida man” isn’t who I would want representing me. No matter what party they belong to.
