In my opinion having "pride" in something you have no control over is stupid. That includes sexuality. It's like having "Tall Pride" or "Brunette Pride" or "Freckle Pride"

Get over yourself.

I get that. But in the "gay pride" context I think it's more about being the opposite of shame

If society didn't stigmatize groups like homosexuals (insert any other group we have marginalized here), they wouldn't feel the need to have defend themselves with "pride".

Unfortunately it gives other groups the same perceived "right" to be proud of things they don't control, claiming the same marginalization as LGBTQ community does....valid or not.

See "WHITE," "BLACK" and "HETERO" for some examples.

Maybe there needs to be "Equality" or "respect" marches/protests. Encourage people from all walks of life to participate and learn about the group(s) being marginalized and how these groups are part of the fabric of society. I inadvertently walked into a gay pride march in a major city and while it definitely seemed like a huge party I didn't get the feeling anyone was oppressed or trying to educate me on the "why" they "need" these marches. Maybe they don't care....but that seems counterintuitive to what everyone hears these groups saying, but not necessarily doing.

A 300lb dude in drag in a tutu doesn't scream "RESPECT ME AND MY GAY PRIDE BECAUSE..." to a bunch of people.

These marginalized groups need better marketing teams to get their messages across.
