More guilt transferrance from the left. There is no president in the past 50 years who has done more to hurt the poor and retirees than Biden.

What good is social security when the dollar is almost worthless? Inflation is killing us and it directly the fault of Biden.

BTW there hasn't been a single Republican talking about cutting or taking away social security. This is the myths Dems spread to scare seniors into voting for them. The ONLY thing I have ever heard from the Republicans is that social security, for the last decade or so, is paying out more than it takes in.

The biggest problem is that from day one of this Ponzi scheme, BOTH parties have stealing from social security. At some point the entire system will collapse.

Which will suck for me because I am old enough to retire now. And I'm afraid that I will only collect on what is supposed to be my money for a few years, if at all, before it goes belly up.

You want to know how I know this is leftist propaganda? The first sentence.

"The economy is recovering from the depths of the pandemic in large part due to the massive relief packages that Congress passed in 2020 and 2021."

Those "relief packages" were a joke. The did absolutely nothing. What made the economy start growing again was when the red states lifted those idiotic lock downs on businesses. And it was only the red states, like the state I live in, that actually saw any economic growth. The blue states were still floundering in the stupidity of their state governments.

The left has been trying to scare seniors about social security for decades. As far as I know not even a Democrat (who would be far more inclined to cut money to services) has touched social security. It would be political suicide.

And if you don't believe that then what are those 4 senators trying to do? The article spelled it out. They wanted to balance the budget. That is NOT code for cutting social security. That is code for trying to live within the governments means. Something the Democrats just cannot understand.

Then the author of that article has the nerve to say this:

"It is worth considering bringing government spending and revenues more in line with each other over time. But a balanced budget is a completely arbitrary public finance goal. A country that has strong growth amid historically low interest rates can and will shrink its debt burden – defined as either the ratio of debt to gross domestic product (GDP) or as the share of interest payments out of GDP. By both measures, the U.S. government’s finances are manageable."

Is he out of his freaking mind??? Ever since Obama (including the Trump years) or debt to GDP ratio has been over 100%. The only time in the history of this nation that it has been over 100% was during the Great Depression. What it means is the government's payments on the debt exceed the amount of money they steal from the private sector. That is NOT "manageable" under any circumstance. The housing crash of 2007 was because home loans were made easier to get by Bush. People who could not in any way afford the payments on their houses were given loans. It all crashed in 2007.

You see, people on the left, like the author of this article, just do not understand basic economics. All he was doing in his article was leap of logic. He wants to associate balancing the budget with cuts for seniors.

"You want to know how I know this is leftist propaganda?"

Because you don't agree with it

"They wanted to balance the budget. That is NOT code for cutting social security"

If it means slashing benefits like SS, then yes it is.

"You see, people on the left, like the author of this article, just do not understand basic economics"

Why do you insist on making exaggerated statements that are not accurate? If you can say that everybody on the left doesn't understand economics then anybody can make sweeping generalizations about the right and you can't complain

Octavia. I'm tired of this. I am not disparaging you, I am just tired of the back and forth. Maybe you enjoy it, I am not sure. I guess I get some bizarre enjoyment from it or else I wouldn't engage in it. That is a character flaw I need to fix because this is truly just a waste of both of our time when we could be spending it doing something much more productive. Like spending time with my wife.

After awhile I just get tired of all of this. So I wish you a good day and I mean that sincerely. I am bowing out because all we are doing is playing tit for tat and not getting anywhere.

I can't speak for anyone else, but if I was married, that's how I'd rather spend my time

I would urge you to go back and reread your posts, and see why I say that you make exaggerated and overgeneralized comments

If that is true then we both were doing that. And that is probably why I just got tired of it.

All he does is nothing but purposely lie, literally telling the complete opposite of the truth in an overtly deliberate manner amply indicating it's by design as opposed to out of basic ignorance.

Take Social Security. Republicans have sought to privatize it for decades, something which W Bush was really big on but prevented from doing. Trump also stood for it, but it would have been too politically risky to try again and wouldn't have enough backers, so it was left on the shelf.

Further, while it has been operating in the black, the GOP has routinely taken funds out of it (despite that being illegal) to help plug holes in their ever increasing spending budgets.

Biden & Co relief packages WORKED. TOO WELL. By stimulating the economy and getting consumers to start spending again yet while supply had been severely constricted due to the pandemic shutdown in 2020, thus spurring price increases. Extending increased Unemployment Insurance also worked - also too well, by getting workers to stay home instead of getting newly available jobs. A growing pile of unfilled job openings then caused them to hold out for or switch to higher paying jobs... And so we got this mess as a consequence.
