Coal is uneconomic and continues to become more so every year. First off, coal plants are never constructed without significant tax breaks and subsidies (all of which comes out of the pockets of the average taxpayer).
Then, any money a coal plant makes over the course of its life goes straight into the pockets of execs and shareholders. And any time the plant loses money, they make it up by increasing rates on consumers and asking politicians for bailouts.
