I was curious if the Politic's Stream majority would even care that Russia invaded Ukraine. I had to get the meme out before Tucker Carlson or any other conservative talking outlet told them what to think.

No one has the right to overturn Democratically elected governments and thwart the will of the people.

Picking sides between two corrupt systems... hmmmm... choices... it's so simple right... LOL

Yes, it's very simple to call everything that doesn't align to your personal interest corrupt.

However, supporting Democracy over unfounded invasion? Easy.

Yes, you're defending a corrupt system...got it... I'm defending neither...

Regardless, I don't understand why you view Ukraine as corrupt but I don't think the answer to corruption is physical force. It disturbs me that there are individuals who think that killing people who disagree with you is even an option. And given the people involved with the situation, it's much easier for me to take a side of people defending their home over an invading force. Almost any situation will have me side with the defenders.

And maybe you understand the situation in Ukraine, maybe you don't, but you've not at all made it apparent your justification for remaining neutral. Neutral can be a very powerful position but when I see a person causing strife for pure political gain, that is never going to end well and it's ramifications will effect families and generations of families. That doesn't sit well to me.

Maybe you're ignorant of the situation and so you wish to remain neutral, and that is fair.

But it seems to me you're only here to antagonize people who disagree with you and you're just attacking me, personally, because you disagree with me in general.

Which, if true, I think utterly weakens your justification regardless if you're ignorant or have a more nuanced opinion.

Personally, if I had a more nuanced opinion, I'd be sharing it so that I wouldn't have to read other people's petty simplifications over complex issues. Unless, of course, you revel in people's ignorance because it makes you feel powerful. Which, to me, is utterly self-defeating.

It's true, knowledge is power but your power is meaningless if you can't pass it on.

Deep.

But I don't think you've actually analyzed the situation all that well. To be honest, neither have I. But I don't think Putin's justifications for invasion are legitimate. There are a plethora of other ways he could've handled Donetsk and Luhansk. It's quite possible he has tried to pursue those avenues but given Putin's unrelenting hold of seat of power, he's gone from President to Prime Minister of Russia. This has never sat well with me for two reasons and if anyone understands Russia politics better than I do wants to chip in, by all means, but to me; Prime Minister and President are just titles and I don't understand why a country would need both a Prime Minister and a President. I know that some places have monarchies and a Prime Minister, and those monarchies have limited powers in conjunction with their respective democracies. I won't pretend I know every facet of these powers and there may be a legitimate reason for a democracy to have both a Prime Minister and a President.

It seems to me, that Putin is the defacto leader regardless of what title he holds. He stays in power and this in and of itself is counterintuitive to a free democracy regardless of the prosperity a country yields. I believe any system that values a singular individual over the state and it's people; that it holds the same inherent flaws as a monarchy. It's counterintuitive to freedom even if that person is legitimately and repeatedly elected. There are severe consequences to a country having a singular leader for an extended period of time. Especially if they are thriving because that consistency cannot last once that person expires. This is why I tend to view Putin as a dictator above all else. No matter how much he leaves his country in terms of a good foundation, he is leaving it open to someone who may not be as competent or as experienced. True, if he relinquished power; he could still have that happen but he's still around to utilize his experience. And maybe Putin is training the next President or Prime Minister. Maybe he has that forward thinking but there is no guarantee the next individual beyond him will hold power if he cannot be tested to have power. This is why I believe that people should choose not leaders but representatives.

Majorities of Americans think Biden’s first year in office has been a failure (56%), he is not fulfilling campaign promises (54%), and he is doing more to divide the nation (52%) than to unite it. Americans are more than four times as likely to consider Biden’s first year to be a major failure (36%) than a major success (8%).
