It’s an interesting theory. Conventional wisdom is that Trump runs the GOP with an iron fist and if you cross him it’s political suicide.
That said, 2024 is a long way away, let alone 2028. It makes sense for some Republicans to place their chips on an anti-Trump bet. Trump could lose control of the narrative somehow, or, you know, die.
