Both these people fought against conservatism throughout their career from start to finish. They did not switch sides, ever. You're merely pretending that you ever respected them.

Never respected Stern but I have seen Neil Young at least a dozen times and consider him to be one of the greatest artists ever. His hypocrisy here does not negate his achievements the same as Pete Rose's gambling does not negate his accomplishments. Neil left his first wife with his disabled son to chase the party then left Pegi, with another disabled son, to die from cancer on her own while he hooked up with his current "supermodel", Daryl. Neil is a great artist but probably NOT a great human being. The stories of him being an a**hole are pretty well documented.

Ok. That doesn't mean he was ever a champion for the politics you're saying he was.

The entire left used to be the anti-establishment / free speech side. My how the times have changed.

Oh aye, you had so much respect for the left wing back in the old days, didn't you?

Yep, and still do. I was opposed to the right back in the day when they were the ones trying to limit free speech and promote war like the left is doing today. After years in the music biz, MOST of my friends are left of center. It is the extremes on both sides that are ripping the US apart.

Well, let's be clear, people like you accused Neil Young of being one of those extremists even in the 60's. Literally nothing's changed, as far as his critics goes.

Nope, not like me brother. I became an adult in the 80's in Las Vegas and embraced sex, drugs and rock and roll. The political right looked at me in a negative light as well. I will still listen to NY just not very often as Spotify happens to be my main source for music the last few years. Oh well...I will be at a Tool show next week with no vax, test or mask requirements. You know...Living life as normal as possible. Not sure how my family and I have survived these last two years with no jab or masks while shaking hands and giving hugs.

If you are ever in Southern Idaho or Central Florida, where life is normal, drop me a line and I will buy you a beer.

Nazis were and continue to be staunchly anti-vaccinations. In fact, they were actively pro-epidemic as they saw disease as doing half the work for them.

We're they faking it in their youths? Was it all about the money the whole time?
2 ups, 2y
Possibly but probably not. As the all-wise all-knowing on every subject known to man, Antithesis (who has NEVER met an issue he can't 100% accurately school us on), points out...They have both been pretty left all of their lives. In the early days of the music biz the money was not obscene like it is today. Stern may have been a sell out the whole ride, but Neil was seemingly more concerned with the girls, getting high and being creative as he was about anything else.

Neil Young was never ever ever fighting against vaccinations. Ever. He was very clear about which establishments he was against and it is an absolute joke that you think you get to redefine his stances retroactively.

Me? Or ThinkAboutReality? I'm not trying to redefine anything. I was just saying that it doesn't have to be about money the whole time. I don't think he's hurting now. But what happens when you fight the establishment and win? Don't you become the New Boss?
[deleted]
1 up, 2y
No. You don't. That's just not how establishments work?

Howard Stern never ever hid the fact that he wanted to be paid for his work. Changing who these people were and what they were about doesn't make us respect them less, it makes us respect YOU less.
