I think it's the dumbing down of God. Most people can't comprehend the distance to Jupiter and they think they can comprehend the thinking of the creator of the universe? It's the whole God is just like me thought process that is flawed from the start due to ego.

God is definitely not like me.

But you are in his image...which could be carbon atoms. Just saying

Hydrogen, god would clearly be hydrogen.

I'm not sure that really means anything.

The line in the bible that said we are made in God's image. Well we are carbon based, hence the carbon atom remark

Well, yeah, but that's the bible talking, not god.

But how can we be better than God? I'm flawed for loving my children more and letting them sin and forgiving them anyway without them asking? Even if I didn't forgive, I couldn't condemn them to pain for eternity.

You are stilling thinking that God thinks like a human. My point is we bring God down to our level. Sometimes for comfort, sometimes for greed, sometimes out of plan ignorance. I try to be humble before God. I don't know the plan, I don't the why, but if Jesus was His son sent to not due for our sins, but teach us how to behave, I'll try to live that way. Hence my progressive politics. I'm pro people.

Your argument collapses on itself as you assume to know how god does or doesn't think. How would you know if he thought beyond our realm of reasoning beyond what some other person wrote in the bible?
If we are made in his likeness, one could assume that we think as he does. Since, according to myth, Adam and Eve at from the tree of knowledge, we have that divine knowledge. There are a myriad of modern scholarly interpretations regarding the term הדעת טוב ורע (hebrew for the following), "the knowledge of good and evil", in Genesis 2 - 3, such as wisdom, omniscience, sexual knowledge, moral discrimination, maturity, and other qualities.
Given that we are taken to this knowledge, it stands to reason we are given the divine knowledge of good and evil and are therefore held to the same divine standard that God held for Lucifer.

Assuming all of the above is incorrect ...

How can we be put to hell when we can't understand God's reasoning? That sounds like parental abuse to me.

Reread my comment. I said have no idea how or why God does what He does. All I can base my own thoughts on is Jesus's teachings if he actually was the son of God. The if is big. I don't know, I don't claim to know, but I can still see the teachings as they are presented in the Bible. I remind open minded should new facts present themselves.

Either way, fictional or truth, I like Jesus and I like his message. So there is no collapse of argument as there isn't an argument, only a thought.

I did see that. But you're missing the part where your assume God doesn't think like a human. Christians who take moral qualities to self govern I have no issues with. It's when that text is used to attack others or undermine the progression of science, technology and the overall human social structure

One more tidbit. In the Hebrew Bible, hell doesn't exist. Hell as a concept is distance from God.

What christians use the Hebrew bible?

Most of them, to a greater or lesser extent. All of them who want to attack gay people for starters (funny how Jesus' only statement on record about judging people for their sexual lives is John 8:7, where he explicitly says that he does NOT condemn the woman).

-- Not a Christian myself, but I don't think the argument that Christians only use the Christian scriptures is valid.

And if Satan punishes bad people, doesn't that make him good?

Without Judas there would've been no salvation.

if i were religiously inclined, i'd ask why does God need to be omnipotent, and maybe he allows evil as an obstacle for His children to overcome

Garth Ennis practically read my mind when he wrote Preacher. His interpretation of God alternates between preening narcissist and wrathful asshole, both of which require blind allegiance and an unwavering and all consuming adoration, regardless of the evils he imparts.

If God actually existed, he’d be a colossal scumbag. Maybe that’s why evangelicals love Trump.

Of course that "god" is a projection. We made It in our image.

Christianity is pushing itself into American politics.

Christians also take an extreme victimhood when their religion is questioned. You forget Abrahamic religion isn't the only one in existence. Just because we question one religion does not make us intrinsically atheist or agnostic. It just makes us critical of the Abrahamic texts.

Here get your definitions straight before throwing that shit in here.

Being that Christianity keeps forcing itself into American politics, it's relevant. Especially if maga are holding rallies at churches

So you respond with strawman?

Respond to what? Respond to Christianity making its way into American Politics?
Critically examining the logic behind Christianity is not strawman. It's understanding what is coming to the political stage. Interesting suggestion though. I'd respond the same way if I felt targeted because I had to question my faith.
