Highway robbery. A friend of mine who works for the state said the cost of building highways can be paid off in a few years with the amount of traffic on them but states will never make them free because it's such good income with little effort.

Besides when you really need the more direct route like for work, they're jammed packed so you're paying money to sit in traffic when you could take a more scenic less stressful and free route.. makes no sense to me.

Like the George Washington Bridge between NY and NJ. The deal was that the tolls were to be only till the building costs were paid off, then it'd be free. Well they paid it off decades ago, and tolls just keep getting higher. So that sucks especially for work commuters.

Sneaky thief | Chicago’s I80 toll was to build roll & stockpile cash until interest income pays for maintenance. All stockpile was embezzled, no prosecutio | image tagged in sneaky thief | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I think it saves money and helps the condition of your car as the roads are well kept

it's less money than paying for more gas.

Roads cost money to build and maintain. Nothing's stopping someone from taking backroads; more scenic too.

Nothing is free: either you pay for it with taxes, or you pay for it directly. I support the latter in most instances.

I'm torn - I like that E470 and The Northwest Parkway in Denver are like the autobahn - light traffic and a speed limit of 75 mph (cruising speed of 85 mph thanks to lax enforcement).

What I don't like it that it is owned by a foreign entity.
