One article I came across a few years ago claimed - I kid you not - that we would have entered the next ice age 2000 years ago if it wasn't for all the fires and deforestation that began during the stone age,,,
I'm a rather old guy. I have been hearing things like "The end is near", or "We are in for another ice age", or "Global warming will wipe us out" for many, many years. And this fear mongering dates back all the way to cultures like the druids.
I'm old enough to remember hearing how the next ice age would be upon us in 20 years. Yet 20 years later they were saying we were headed full drive into a Venus effect. Then it was back to the coldest winters since the Ice Age Cometh 70s.
Hence the changing of the name to "Climate Change" because Global Warming sputtered and stopped.
