No, you haven't understood. They're changing the PCR test they use from one that uses emergency authorization to one that has full FDA authorization now that there are options for that.

They do differentiate between viruses and always have.

The CDC is telling you that this does not reliably distinguish between Covid-19 and Influenza.

It absolutely does. The entire point of a PCR test is that it works on genetic markers specific to one virus only.

And the CDC switching brands on PCR test is no admission to the contrary. You've not understood this story at all.
