Although the misery index did not exist in France in 1789, one could argue that the deafness of the political leaders to the plight was a significant contributing factor to the French Revolution. The parallels are striking, n'est pas?

Well thanks very much for the upvote. Best regards to you from the land of the chosen frozen. I live very close to the US/Canada border, and that border seriously needs some weather stripping to keep the cold on the Canada side of the line.

Nixon, Carter, and Obama are notable for the high Misery Index during their administrations. Generally speaking, you don't hear much about the Misery Index until it's value is above 10. Though it spiked in the spring and summer of 2020 at the height of COVID, it never reached the Carter peak of 21.98, and declined below 10 in the fall of 2020. It has been above 10 since April 2021, and is currently 11.01.
