I think it’s okay for kids to believe in him but there’s a point you shouldn’t cross. Don’t keep it a secret forever. Maybe tell the kid when they are ten or a tad younger.

Is it lying to tell kids about Santa or just innocent pretend? My parents had Santa for my brother and I but I don't think I'll be doing it for my kids.

I think it’s innocent as long as you don’t push it too far. For me when I learned the truth I didn’t really care. I feel like if kids get emotional over it then the parents have taken it to far.

Eh, sometimes you have to let kids be kids and enjoy life, especially during these dreary times of late.

Someone I knew decades ago, he was of the Jewish faith and he and his 2 siblings begged and begged their father when they were kids to put up a Christmas tree because everyone else seemed to be doing it, so he relented one year and they did. They found out the hard way that lit candles on the branches were only suitable on Christmas cards, and the father took it as a sign from God that what they did was wrong. So that was the end of that.

The lesson? Let your kids not feel deprived. Let them have some magic in their lives.
They can always choose not to believe in Santa when they get older on their own.

I really hate the "naughty or nice" bit. Kids shouldn't have to earn their presents. Also, the whole thing is such a ridiculous story . . . it's like a test of your kids' credulity.
