I think it's a privilege to live in a society that allows its citizens to help define justice and not depend on archaic methods of judging like trail by ordeal where the defendant had to walk on hot coals or be dunked in water to prove their innocence. Or depending on simple word of mouth or the king to make a judgment. Jurors are picked randomly in the community and have all the time they need to deliberate based on witnesses and evidence. There is also balance of powers in that the judge can overrule their decision if he feels it is wrong or there can be a mistrail. Not everyone likes our current justice system. I think it's better than in the past. What would you change about how trails in the US work?
