I see two sides of this

this is ok IF AND ONLY IF they are using it to remeber lgbtq soliders

anyother way is f**king disrespect to soliders

Soldiers are soldiers doesn't need a seperate poppy for them
2 ups, 3y
true

but back when most of the soliders were alive they would be hatecrimed for being lgbtq and soliders (about 1960s-1970)

so yes their struggle is unique and its good to honor their strength to rise up and do the damn job

Actually, they are transmale panromantic vincian. And yes, he knows that not everyone in the community is self-centered, I think he wa referring to the folks who get offended when they can’t have a rainbow everywhere.

I don't think it's disrespectful. I imagine it's intended to honor LGBTQ veterans who have served.
0 ups, 3y
If you we're lgbtq back then you would me burned so that cancels out your reason so it's disrespectful

I think this is disrespectful unless used to honor LGBTQ soldiers. Any respectable member of the LGBTQ trying to be the center of attention. I understand why you could think otherwise, and I worry about people trying to say they’re just as important as the veterans who fought for the rights they do have, and honestly, most of the people where I live who are a part of the LGBTQ community are so selfish and think so much about the rights they don’t have and spend so much time envying others when they should look down on others and realize that yeah, we may not have all of the rights others have, but we have way more rights and are WAY safer than people who live in places like Syria. To be honest where I live is overrun with extremist “feminists” and extremist “LGBTQ rights activists”. People who say they’re LGBTQ get killed here because most of us think we’re superior. If you live somewhere with people like this it’s disrespectful, and those people bring shame to the community
[deleted]
2 ups, 3y
Or regular soldiers, as long as the person isn’t trying to take attention off of the soldiers, it’s fine

Soldiers are soldiers red poppy is great we don't need pride flag on it which is just disrespectful period.

I see what you’re saying, honestly if we chose for them not to exist, we would get our rights faster, but some people can’t handle not showing off their pride for 5 minutes. In most cases this is disrespectful, but I know not everyone is being disrespectful with it, I think there are some people who are wearing it to show that they had a family member who was an LGBTQ veteran, and showing that they went through some hard times. I agree that most people who are wearing it think they deserve the same respect as the people who got them the rights that do have and those people are not people to base our community off of, but if you do, we took that risk when we made ourselves a part of it. I understand you don’t think that any LGBTQ soldier needs any special recognition, and to be honest, they don’t, but some people want it to be known that they know an LGBTQ veteran

I agree with you. In fact, I’ve heard of a lot of people who became homophobic just because the LGBTQ+ people they knew wouldn’t shut up about it and “made it their entire personality”. I don’t like those people either, in fact I was hesitant about coming out for fear of becoming one of them. I personally don’t show off my pride in obvious ways, at most I’ll wear a discreet bracelet resembling one of my flags, plus talking about it on here with you guys. I can kinda see both sides to “maybe it’s to honor a queer veteran”, which seems reasonable, but I think a lot of people would get it for themselves.

I honestly don’t blame the homophobic people who have that reason, as a community, we need to expect the worst of us to be recognized the most

Yeah. We’ve all been guilty of stereotyping based on the most annoying from a group. I really wish that some people would shut up about it. It can be a bit hard to draw the line between being open about it and shoving it in everyone’s faces. But in every group, there’s toxic people, and those voices end up being the loudest. Also, I can kinda relate. I took an online quiz, and it light called me misogynistic for pointing out that some feminists were too whiny even though I’m a woman myself, (and only after learning about non-radical feminists did I start to join that movement).

That sucks
1 up, 3y
My thoughts on feminism are this: there are some advantages that being a male will give you in society, and some advantages that you will get for being female. People of both sexes should work together to undo those advantages and disadvantages and be allies to each other.

If they’re a soldier who was lgbtq+ who dealt with hate they deserve a rainbow poppy, other than that I see why it would be disrespectful
0 ups, 3y,

Keep in mind its supposed to be celebrating the end of WWI and back then litterly no one supported lgbtq so it litterly doesn't matter if any of them where even lgbtq

But still, if I had a gay grandparent who was closeted and in the army, I’d wear a rainbow pin and a regular one.

It's still disrespectful

Oh! I didn't realize it's a RD poppy!
Well, Still, Not really disrespectful, As long as they still tend to honor the soldiers, Doesn't really matter what color is the poppy, And i'm not sure if it's a strict matter to always be red, There are other colors as well, Red was just the most traditional one, Kinda like Orange and Halloween

Yea a rememberance day poppy which is supposed to HONOR Canadian soldiers who fought or fighting for our country, but by putting another flag to " honor" something else is just disrespecting soldiers
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
Well granted, It does look like they're trying to pull the attention, But who knows, Maybe they still do want to honor the soldiers all while just wearing a prettier color

okay first off, did you DO any actual research before you posted this. because there ARE other colors of poppy flowers, and two, don't make everyone who is lgbtq+ a narcissist.

Purple poppies, which are supposed to represent animals that have served.
Black poppies, which honor the sacrifices made by black soldiers.
White poppies, which are supposed to signal a commitment to peace.

Well, yes. Soldiers in the war had to fear for their lives because of the war, and because they were gay and stuff. It’d not fair to day pride poppy’s are disrespectful when they are anything but.
0 ups, 3y,

No, because they where in the closet. That means they never told anyone they where gay.
