generally age = experience, but youth does not necessary equate to inexperience. the way i look at it is, the experiences we have will fall into different categories:

General experience
nearly everyone will have these, but they come at different stages in your life.

Personal experience
an experience you get that not everyone can relate to, the chance given to you by your choice of profession and what not. Essentially these experiences come from choices rather than age.

Random Experience:
i look at this one for people that just happened to experience fame or an experience not many people have experienced, and you would be lucky to have experienced these.

In this example, older people will have more general experience, while anyone could have more a personal or a random experience. You could prolly wright this better with more specific and more of the different categories of experience, but yeah.

I guess that's true, I hadn't thought about categorizing it

and it's also possible to learn from other's experience, so you can be young and still be learning from a lot of people and get experience that way

I heard something about this the other day
"There's 10 years of experience and then there is 1 year of experience repeated 10 times"
0 ups, 2y
That's true. It depends what you're doing in those 10 years, cause if it's the same rudimentary stuff, there's nothing new being learned

It's not by being older, but some things only happen to you once you've reached a certain point in life, and some things can only happen at one point. So if you don't take your chance while you have one, something good may pass you by.

In general yes, an older person would have more chances to gain experience. However it isn’t set in stone, if a kid has gone through a lot hardship while on older person was coddled their entire lives the kid would have more experience
1 up, 2y
That's kind of how I look at it. Age gives more chances to get experience, but that doesn't mean you take it, and it doesn't mean you'll always learn from it.

No.. age does not relate to experience. Ppl take things the wrong way and/or learn bad lessons from experience.
2 ups, 2y
I agree, some people are better at learning than others, so even if you have less age AND less experience, if you're good at learning, you can still utilize that experience better than someone with more experience

in my opinion, not always. It definitely depends on the scenario

like, if you're comparing someone who's been doing computer engineering for years longer than some 20 y/o who just graduated, then yes, I would say age would equate to experience. But in something like math, there is probably a child prodigy better at it than a 30 y/o

What if it's a 50 year old that does nothing but work scrubbing toilets then goes home just to watch tv all night?

I've heard it said once that a man could work for a company for ten years and gain ten years' experience, or work with one years' experience ten times.

So it'd depend if you're experiencing new things or the same thing over and over

Exactly.

No. Not universally. A lot of the time, age means more experience, but someone younger could have more experience just because they're better at it or do it more.
0 ups, 2y
I agree, or they can learn from other people

As a broad rule, yes.

If you want to get specific, like do you have 5 years of experience doing X job? Then a 25 year old might have more experience than a 45 year old.

But by simply being older, that 45 year old will have a broader range of experience at life. Including not being experienced AT something. An older person will know more about starting something that they have no knowledge of than someone significantly younger than they are.

unless the 45 year old hasn't done much but sit on his bum the last 25 years
1 up, 2y,

But you're proving that 1st point: the 45 year old has to have lived in mom's basement in isolation. Take a "normal" sample, and yeah, age does equate to experience.
1 up, 2y
Even in a "normal" sample, there is still variation, and not everyone learns from experience as well.

Yes age does equate to experience in my case.
1 up, 2y
But not necessarily in cases other than yours?
