All Republicans in the Senate voted against enforceable, national standards for national elections today. This included photo ID requirements endorsed by the perpetually conservative Joe Manchin. These standards would not usurp state or local laws governing state and local elections. The Constitution leaves it up to Congress to control national elections. I have not seen a political party oppose a bill that might increase the minority vote since Southern Democrats like Strom Thurmond filibustered the Voting Rights Law in 1965. Thurmond and his fellow racists were members of the Democratic Party then, and the Republicans correctly called them "Racists." Thurmond and many others of his racist ilk from the former "Southern Democrats," were Republican when they died. Their followers joined them in changing parties. So, you will not hear the GOP calling out their members for copying Thurmond, today.
