The science behind it is that Mount Everest is just near space. Space is really cold if you go up there but Mount Everest is near space which means it's cold.

it comes from the moisture on the mountain, plus the cold weather. also, some clouds actually ARE above Mt. Everest. Science.
because there is still moisture in the air, even above the clouds. Since the atmosphere is thinner at such heights the air gets much colder. The moisture freezes into snow. Snow doesn't always come out of clouds
