As I said I’m anti, so in my opinion no. It’s not my decision if it’s outlawed or not

She was a Democrat and a leftist, but not a Middle East terrorist supporting, police hating leftist like some on this site

If the flag was the symbol of the government only, yes, I’d kneel.

Those who kneel should be glad that they're living in a great country to where they're not getting their balls sliced in half. And this is not a racist comment, so if you think this is racist then please get the hell off this meme

I'd be willing to bet that it's more than could be counted on both hands.

Certainly, China, North Korea, pretty much any of the communist or totalitarian nations. I'm sure there are several Muslim countries who would inflict this kind of punishment.

then you have to also agree with her abortion views. right?

censorship? That is the the suppression or prohibition, which I don't think this is. RGB wasn't without platform. If this was a view she wanted to put out there and not just an off hand comment, she wouldn't have had trouble finding a network to help her with that.

Plus, what was published was in the same vein: Ginsburg replied, “I think it’s really dumb of them.”

“Would I arrest them for doing it? No,” Ginsburg elaborated. “I think it’s dumb and disrespectful. I would have the same answer if you asked me about flag burning. I think it’s a terrible thing to do, but I wouldn’t lock a person up for doing it. I would point out how ridiculous it seems to me to do such an act.”

Couric then asked, “But when it comes to these football players, you may find their actions offensive, but what you’re saying is, it’s within their rights to exercise those actions?”

“Yes,” said Ginsburg. “If they want to be stupid, there’s no law that should be preventive. If they want to be arrogant, there’s no law that prevents them from that. What I would do is strongly take issue with the point of view that they are expressing when they do that.”

Couric wrote that she always tried to keep her 'personal politics' out of her reporting throughout her career.

She then admitted that she omitted the words of Justice Ginsburg because they were "problematic remarks" - that saying it would be politically unacceptable, which falls directly into the definition of censorship.

Exactly!

I still argue it isn't suppression or prohibition - it was omission. It doesn't speak much to Couric's journalistic integrity, but it doesn't meet the definition of censorship. If they had cut the whole thing where she disagreed with Kaepernick, you could argue the case a bit more, but they didn't.

I'm not defending her - she said she wanted to shield her...well, that isn't really even an attempt to be unbiased, is it? My criticism is that "censorship" is overblown.

Her words were suppressed in order to preserve the narrative that kneeling for the anthem was somehow patriotic. Allowing her criticism of the practice would have broken the illusion of Democrat unity on the topic.

Preserving the narrative? The part they left in didn't endorse it. She in fact called kneeling stupid and arrogant.

The part they left out was telling them they should be grateful for the life their parents and grandparents had and that they had a better life than they would have had where they came from....which is a little cringe.

Hers was an argument against the idea of kneeling, saying that the country these people are protesting is the only reason their parents and grandparents had decent lives.

I'm not sure what you're arguing against, unless it's just for the sake of arguing. The regular liberal suspects are hiding from this post, because it's indefensible.

You don't see how cringe it is to tell people (some at least) descended from people brought here in chains to be grateful for the opportunity and that they are better off here? It is actually one of the southern arguments used to justify slavery. "They are better off here."

Katie got it and that's why she cut that part out.

Lots of us think kneeling wasnt the best way to protest, so that part wasn't very controversial. But the part she cut was tone deaf.

My family arrived as slaves. No, I don't think it's cringe.

white indentured servants were not slaves.

Different strokes for different folks.

It sounds dismissive. Just because people want to address ongoing injustice doesn't mean they aren't grateful. And generally when you tell someone to be grateful it's a person with power telling that to someone without. Parent to child, boss to employee, etc. It was just a poor way of saying it.

But we are off topic. It was her opinion and I agree it should have been conveyed, though it isn't censorship.
