For me, it's a guitar. A lot of artists start with a guitar.

It is a very popular instrument

A full sized piano us probably the best instrument, since you can write music for any style on it. I'm sure you can find a piano version of orchestral music, blues jazz or heavy metal.
But I'd still go with a six string guitar since it's fairly portable and can still be used for a huge variety of music.

True, heavy metal isn't the same on piano though

Lol, just kidding friend ;) I took a year of piano lessons as a kid, but it never stuck nor did it strike a chord with me (pun intended?) But I definitely appreciate it. I love a good classic rock piano solo, think lynryd skynyrd "Tuesdays gone" or "all I can do is write it in a song". Also guns n Rose's "november rain". Those are some of my faves. Also, if you're into that sort of thing, check out Metallica's crossroads performance with Lang Lang at the 2014 Grammys...that was epic.

I do really enjoy Metallica, but I must say, I don't think piano works the greatest with that style. Every instrument has its limits, even piano lol

Did you see that performance? And I'm curious, what about the other solos I mentioned? The skynyrd ones are actually really elegant of you know the ones I'm referring to. November rain was also a big crossover deal, showcased a totally new side of classic rock. And if you want to go further there's Queen and the Beatles, and Elton John. I co sider most of them more in the Pop genre, but still respect.

Not personally no. I've heard November Rain, not much into skynyrd, though I might check it out.
