It'd be especially cruel and evil to force a child to live like that.

Dude, these comprise such an incredibly tiny percentage of births...

Just like any abortion after the first trimester... before the first trimester. Yet, abortions are advertised to the right wing as though its been done in late second trimester or in the third as they show images of near-fully developed fetuses.

Just matching propaganda with propaganda.

Sure, to the folks who believe all abortion is done at such late periods then that's a fair critique. According to Google they account for around 1-3% of abortions ('they' being abortions after week 21').

But for folks who regard the correlation of life's value with age as ageism, it's not really going to hold water.

Your clause didn't really ... make sense. Who's talking about ageism?
That said, it doesn't change the fact that you're not permitted to abort fetuses who have such genetic markers.

Ageism is discrimination against someone because of their age. Justifying abortion on the grounds that someone is not fully developed is ageism.

But aaaaanyways, you're essentially complaining that we can't kill a person whose body hasn't properly developed. I doubt this was your goal, but that sounds disturbingly like the logic applied in the Reich when the mentally ill and physically disabled were sent to death camps. Societies that decide only genetically pure individuals deserve to live don't usually wind up being great places for anyone to live.

Your first paragraph is incorrect as one does not have an age until they're born.

My "complaint" is not what you're alleging. Also, might want to avoid Godwin's law. As you said, just because something is a certain way does not mean that it calls for an action. I am not calling for the termination of a fetus for the reason that it isn't fully developed. I leave the reasoning to the mother on the why. However, my stance is firm in that once the fetus can start to feel pain is when it is no longer humane to terminate it.

We don't have a birthday until we're born, yes, but the developmental process for a person begins nine months prior.

Again, not calling you a Nazi. I hate when people use that term. I'm saying that's what the mentality reminds me of when folks say we should abort because the person will have mental or physical defects. It was an example.

The developmental process could also be said to start when a male body generates sperm. But it's not men that you're trying to oppress.

I always seem to have one or two blocked comments on my replies, so I went back over the past few weeks and looked; A LOT of them have been from you. Do yourself a favor and stop trying, because I'm not responding substantively. I blocked you for a reason and that is because you made it impossible to have a civil dialogue about nearly anything. Consider this your PSA for the future.

Contrary to what you think, the world does not revolve around you. If you insist on saying stupid, borderline offensive things, then I may point that out in a way other people can see. Also how many other people are you blocking, snowflake?

Hey, ease up, despite his views, he's a respected member in this community and speaks fairly without resorting to ad hominem, which is more than I can say for the majority of the right wing.

For anyone else reading this, "you made it impossible to have a civil dialogue" means that I told the truth about how the Catholic Church killed my people & continues to oppress women.

A fair point, and if the fetus can survive, I would agree with you, it's not reason enough (in my opinion) to abort because of mental/physical defects. But again, not my body, not my choice. That said, I do agree that if the fetus shows genetic markers to have a terminal condition at birth which results in great suffering to the fetus after birth, or even a still birth, that is where I agree the fetus should be terminated to prevent the suffering of a living human.

I mean, I understand your point. I really do. But the moral nuance of such a situation is insanely complex.

"Not strictly, but every abortion prevents anyone from getting even to that stage of life. Outrage is justifiable, because it shouldn't be a problem we have to deal with."

We've, once again, reached that point of the discussion on when a pregnancy reaches "personhood" and where we disagree. As you've stated your piece, so shall I mine:

If there is no Central Nervous System, it cannot feel pain/think/perceive its existence. Once those three are achieved, that's where I view personhood as existing.

Exactly. Which is why I get disgusted when people put up anti-abortion billboards featuring a 9 month fetus begging people to not get/fight abortion, as if the majority of abortions were done to 9mo fetuses. It simply isn't the case. It's, as you said, far more complex.
