Clinical trials were done last year before emergency use authorization was approved. Pfizer started human testing for its vaccine May 5, 2020. The trial was done on 43,448 people - far more than the number typically used for clinical trials. The FDA issued Emergency Use Authorization for it on December 11, 2020. Thats more than six months of trials, not “only a few months”.
