It wouldn’t surprise me if they engineered it to deal with the Hong Kong protestors. Nothing would surprise me when China is involved but probably not. I think they were tinkering with it and it got away from them.

No, that hasn't been proven. It's good that they are still trying to figure it out, but evidence still points to a likely jump from animals to humans.
