Hybrids still need gasoline and there just aren't enough electric vehicles to make a dent. Public transportation wasn't invented under the Trump administration. It has been around for centuries. There may have been an increase in its usage under Trump only because he put everyone back to work.

BTW did you know that if we went 100% or some other non-petroleum based energy production for our transportation that America would still need oil. 40% of all oil production goes into plastic and other products. Some of it even goes into medicine. So we are ALWAYS going to need oil.

Oil also is used on electric vehicles. In addition to all of the plastic that used in making cars, the tires are made from oil and all moving parts on the car are lubricated by oil products.

We never went off foreign oil. We simply had net positive exports while still importing almost as much. Just because it's 51% majority export doesn't mean we're not importing 49%.

Electrifying transportation freeze up that 49% to use for plastics, medicine, etc.

Liberals who used public transportation and hybrids help to levelize consumption which put us net positive in exports.

At a person who has seriously been looking into solar energy to be used on the land I am looking into buying and retire on, I can tell you that spent lithium batteries and spent solar panels are a huge environmental problem. At no time have I ever read that lithium can be recycled. However, if you know something about that please let me know.

Why do you think that conservatives don't recycle? Most cities maintain a huge fleet of trucks that do nothing but pick up recycling. Everyone is given recycling bins along with garbage bins. Conservatives use those separate fleets of trucks to pick their recycling. Even though it is very destructive to the environment to maintain and use a separate fleet of trucks nearly every city does it because it makes people feel good about themselves.

Just like people who drive Priuses. They do it to make themselves feel superior to people who drive internal combustion engines.

Here's something you probably have never considered. If there was a way to produce a fuel that was efficient and inexpensive as gasoline some conservative capitalist would be the one who brought it to market.

I know for a fact that Chevron is dumping huge amounts of cash into alternative energy sources, not to block it, but to capitalize on it. The oil industry knows that they could never block alternative energy sources so they are trying to be the first to get there. If they don't then they become like the buggy whip industry.

you might want to pool resources with a few neighbors and create a micro grid for renewables+storage. backwoods home magazine and other renewable energy magazines are a start.

lithium batteries can last decades if kept in the middle of their charge range. that means not empty or full, not running full cycles. that means paying more for capacity you won't use, but having it last decades.

What city practices the one truck waste pick up? I lived in So. Cal (near Los Angeles), I've lived in the SF Bay Area, I've lived in the Kansas City, Mo metro and now I live in the Salt Lake metro. I am looking to retire soon and buy some acreage almost in the middle of nowhere. That means if I want electricity then I am going to have use solar. When you hear conservatives complaining about solar it is not that we don't think it works, it that solar and wind are incapable of meeting the demands that America needs. What we are afraid of is leftists who use feeling and not their brains. They think that all we need to do is throw up a few solar panels and windmills and then we can just shut down all other forms of energy. That cannot happen. Thousands, perhaps millions, of lives will be lost if we just willy nilly shut down nuclear (which is the cleanest most environmentally friend energy production that we have), coal, hydro and natural gas. If you get an electric car, even a used $5k nissan leaf with a 20kw battery, it's got enough battery to power house loads for X amount of hours, depending on what you want running and for how many hours you want them running. (V2H vehicle to home).

Yes but if you are trying to generate enough electricity to power a home and live comfortably then at some point those solar panels are going to become useless. I've heard that at most they last 20 years. When I can no longer heat and cool my house or cook dinner or keep my refrigerator cool then that solar panel is useless to me.

Lithium batteries last about 10 years. And you have to have batteries if you are going to use either wind or solar panels. Especially with wind because it is so interment. Wind is far less productive than solar but as long as you maintain the turbines wind power will far out live solar.

That is good to know that you can recycle lithium batteries because I do not want to dispose of them by burying them on my property or taking them to a landfill.

if the government could get those DC lines to carry renewables from where they are to where they're needed, it's a moot point about "solar not working in the north". There's no more need for nuclear, it's the most expensive source when you factor government provided waste storage and insurance the "free market" doesn't want to provide for a cost that would make nuclear financially viable.
