Just kidding about my incendiary image.

How about they separate our usernames from our comments we make where we are taking action on behalf of the Imgflip Community.

Oh and make us all Global Moderators too.

Thanks for your perspective. I think some users view everything a Community Moderator does and says as if it's coming from Imgflip.

Community Moderators were Imgflip users first, we are still Imgflip users now.

Which means you bring your opinions and biases with you - and those can influence your moderation decisions.

It seems like everyone is offended by everything these days, and it's affecting the ability to have conversations in comments. As soon as someone is unable to defend their arguments - the flagging begins. All one needs to do in order to silence their opposition is to engage in basic conversation - and then flag the responses they get. Their opposition gets a timer hours or days.

I've been put on a timer quoting someone in order to point out their hypocrisy - because my screenshot contained their username. it's lunacy. I made 2 memes about it a week ago, and they shot to the #1 and #2 slots on the front page of the politics stream within hours.

When a conservative gets a 24hr timer for calling a new user a ‘noob’, but a liberal doesn’t even get an insulting comment deleted, something is wrong.

Terminator Robot T-800 | Maybe you would be happier with an AI Moderator | image tagged in terminator robot t-800 | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Ok, sure I have opinions and biases. I carry my Imgflip upbringing with me. I like to say my Imgflip parents were socrates and clinkster, if you know who they were and their style. Among the very best users imo, ever.

What does that have to do with your timers and the Moderation calls I've made? Congrats on your front page m/politics memes btw.

One of Imgflip's goals is implementation of as much automation as possible. Since you're nailing it here imgflip.com/i/4vgipq

If the AI was equally lenient or strict - sure, I'd take that.

Could be here soon. Lenient or strict are not words I would use though. It would be algorithmic if, when and where applied.
2 ups, 3y
I meant only that whatever rules it follows are equally applied. The rules being either lenient or strict - are welcome as long as they're applied equally.

I've considered trying to help - but I have 2 businesses to run now and I don't need a pay-cut. I spend a lot of time on imgflip because my own system automation requires supervision, and as the primary developer I sift through graphs and reports all day, and meme as the inspiration hits me.

There's already a tool to deal with name-calling. It's the ignore button. From what I've seen, the slightest insult is enough to put someone on a timer. The more that goes on, the more sensitive people users will become - because they're rewarded for being sensitive by having their opponents silenced and censored.

The way to teach users how to utilize the flagging tools is equally simple - false flags earn the reporting user a timer.....something short, but annoying. Heck, make it increase exponentially to really drive the point home. Require moderators to write-up every action they take with their justification citing the ToS rules applied. Failing to give a write-up loses moderator privileges.

It's not rocket science, it's just a leveling of the playing field and implementing accountability.

All of those are good ideas and feedback for the site. I like that you use Imgflip share your inspiration here.

Thinking about positive and negative feedback in Imgflip's flagging system, I agree there should be disincentive or more disincentive for spam flagging or "false" flags. I know what you mean.

We do have the ability to write notes for image disapprovals and comment deletions, it's not currently required though. I personally try to make use of those, on rare occasion a question will come up later about a call I've made, those notes can help.

Community Moderators are entrusted with their abilities. The owner of Imgflip can see everything we do. On day one 2018-10-05, I understood my role as a Community Moderator was and is an experiment that could end at any time. I would not think twice if my time ended, or ended for all the Community Moderators. It's part of the deal as I understand it.
