Suggestion:

Step 1: Get a job - literally any job
Step 2: Develop a budget and live within your means
Step 3: Do not go into debt or work to pay off the debt you owe
Step 4: Build your credit score by paying your bills on-time
Step 5: Save money over the course of years
Step 6: Take out a loan and buy a home/property
Step 7: Spend the money you used to pay for rent on OWNING your own stuff

It's really not hard if you are smart with your money and don't blow it on things you don't need. The best part is... ANYONE can do it! You may have to make some adjustments but if you do as I've described above, you'll get there.

Step 1 1/2: Never EVER get a credit card. If you want a card then get a debit card.

That may be a bit extreme. They can be useful in emergencies. But if you do get one, pay it off immediately or adjust the budget to make it a priority in as little time as possible.

By-and-large though... I understand the sentiment and agree.

About this idea - You know about Christmas Accounts at Banks, right? What about an account that's for Emergencies Only. That money can't be touched until whatever conditions are met. That way there's no need for the Credit Card Trap.

That is certainly one way to go about it. Nothing wrong with it as you've done your research and are practicing fiscal responsibility.
