The vaccines were too narrowly focused. They created immunity by teaching your body to attack a very specific part of the virus (the spike protein). All this did was give the virus a path to evolve new strains to defeat the vaccine. We have never done a vaccine campaign during a pandemic before and the reason is simple - it doesn't work. Viruses are too smart to be defeated by such an attack.
Now if you want to get into conspiracies; they knew this would happen and did it anyways because new strains maximize profits for the pharma companies.
What I'm saying is while in the past, they always provided proof and ran it through the media for all to see, they haven't done that in this case. They just announced it and pressed on.
Chines Bat Lady gave an interview about search for bats with coronavirus. She struck me as excited there maybe as many as 5000-6000 different strains of coronavirus in bats.
