Yes.
●They cost 3 cents to make.
●Inflation is so high right now that they buy nothing.
●Basically no one will suffer from stores having to round prices to the nearest nickel (you'll overpay by 2 cents: who cares!)
●Credit, debit, interwebz purchases will continue unchanged as the concept and value of the penny will remain intact. It just will not be excepted at most stores.
●Limited edition collectable pennies can still be minted so coin collectors have their precious AU58 graded pennies to collect.

As someone who used to be a cashier, I 100% support getting rid of pennies. Hell, let's get rid of nickels and dimes too while we're at it. All these coins usually just wind up in a coin jar collecting dust anyway.

Yes, for multiple reasons.
But one big one is that the pennies' buying power is lower that the value of the copper used to make them.
Here's a video explaining it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5UT04p5f7U

I think most people are for it, but it would require change, and it would become an issue between the parties, and the penny would get called "an American staple" or something like that, and Reddit wouldn't shut up about it, and the right would call the left dumb for their stance, and the left would call the right dumb for their stance, and all of a sudden penny hoarding starts, and Ebay starts going crazy for them, and in the end all the motions are rejected and we still have pennies.

That's a exaggerated prediction of course, but you never know...

We should keep an eye on how much the average penny gets used in its lifetime. Say it's used 100 times (random number, not statistic), creating $1.00 of value. That would mean it generated ~$0.20 or more in taxes for the government, paying off it's $0.03 cost of production.

Pennies should stop being produced when the total number of times they are used drops enough that the tax money they generate is less valuable than the coin's cost of production. I don't know if we can know how much pennies are used, though.

No you can just make pennies out of a less expensive metal and it will be worth more compared to how much it takes to make
2 ups, 3y
Yes, and along with it, completely revamp the currency system

I think we should increase the worth of the U.S cent and make it out of cheaper metals

They are pretty much useless

Yes I would, as surly said, they're expensive to make and you have to worry about inflation, but no since Buisnesses should be exact on change, and you can still save up to get some cash
1 up, 3y
Yes, it costs American taxpayers 6 1/2¢ to make 1 penny.
It’s f**king stoooopid.

Yes

*materials are rare

*only worth 1 cent

*requires thousands of dollars to manage

*if a press brakes it’s extremely expensive, and creates a problem for the public
