I thought that way also. But I'm fearing that the Chinese people, having never, ever, been free, are afraid to pursue freedom- especially as long as it pays to just go along. Something we see in our own country, sadly

I'm not sure about the 'never, ever, been free'? Are you suggesting communism is basically Confucianism or Zen?

Lets turn the question around, can you name a time period Chinese people were not under some kind of dictatorship and had freedoms?
