There are a whole lot of people under the age of 35 who have no idea of what we are celebrating on the 4th of July. History is largely not being taught for many, many years. By calling it by the proper name, “Independence Day”, there’s at least a slim chance that somebody will Google it to see what it means. In the absence of that, ignorance will prevail, and there will continue to be a large portion of the population that has no idea of who we fought in war, for what reasons, and how did the USA become a new Country instead of remaining as an oppressed colony.

As an addendum to this, by looking at recent comments on this and other memes, it is quite obvious that History is not the only subject that isn’t being taught or learned. Add the fundamental communication skills of proper written English to the ignorance list that seems to grow longer as time goes on.

You are actually pretty cool most days. I just don't like being preached too. Feels kinda liberal. But we don't have to agree all the time. Sometimes your opinion is gonna be shittier than mine. I am good with that.

I listen to the entire declaration of independence every independence day. I make whoever is with me listen too. You can make it fun by putting all of the grievances on bingo cards and as you read the declaration of independence each person marks the grievance that our current government has done.

Unfortunately there are a whole lot of people who have never read the Declaration of Independence, nor have they been taught what is all about. Very sad!
