Oh I have...long ago.
I ask you to define what you mean, because the term "machine gun" has a very specific definition, unlike "assault weapon" - it's a scary word liberals use to paint a wide range of things they're afraid of.
Let me educate you, since you're unwilling to educate yourself.
There's a little law called the National Firearms Act (NFA for short) which regulates who can buy what types of firearms. Semi-auto rifles (like the AR-15, which is what seems to scare liberals the most) are not regulated by the NFA. If you knew anything, you'd be terrified of the .30 caliber bolt-action rifles. An AR-15 might be a credible threat to 200 yards. A capable marksman with a .30 caliber rifle can be effective to 1000 yards (10 football fields). You'll never even see him, and the last thing you'll hear as you're bleeding out is the delayed report of the round as it finally catches up to the bullet. Then there's a truly powerful round like .50 BMG which extends that scenario to nearly 2 miles.
The NFA stuff, full-auto rifles, suppressors (silencers), short-barreled rifles (SBR) - they are covered by NFA title II purchase restrictions.
If you'd like to own a title II firearm, you need to go through a much MUCH more in-depth background check than a standard firearm purchase. For the SBR and suppressors, it usually takes 6 months. On top of that, there's a "tax stamp" that must be purchased for each item. In the case of a title-II full-auto rifle, the process is so long and expensive that the firearms are usually priced above $10,000. I know a lot of gun owners and have fired a lot of guns - and I've only ever met 1 person who had a title II full-auto.... Uzi are really weird to shoot.
