Simple Solution: Don't look at 'Dark Humour' whilst at work ?

Or better yet, actually do work instead of browsing the interweb

First, it's not just about checking things at work. When logging in to Imgflip it automatically shows the content for Followed Streams.

It could be that SOMEONE forwards "your [POLITICAL] meme" to "folks at work"--even a company you've never heard of--and the person who RECEIVES it gets in trouble.

By having it flagged NSFW, the person who is going to forward it is likely to think twice and say, "Maybe I need to just SHOW that to the person when I KNOW there won't be anybody around, or maybe email it to their PERSONAL email. Or download it to my PERSONAL PC", etc.

I take your point but I think the solution is to separate work life from home life.
Don't logon at work
Maybe NSFW should be phased out and replaced with something that suggests unsuitable for younger viewer, may cause offense or open at your own risk ?

Nowadays most people who work with a PC simply can't or won't separate their "two" lives.

Many companies' spam detection programs would automatically reject any email that contains [NSFW] in the subject line, or someone often including such a tag in their subject line would be ASSUMED to be sending porn and could wind up having problems with co-workers or HR folks.

And I've had several times recently where I posted one of my death memes on FB and then remembered -- "My cousin! I have to delete that! I hope he didn't see it!"

Again, thanks for the warnings, but I shall continue to create NSFW Memes and I'll probably have some of those 'unfeatured' due to nudity or excessive gore.
I still find it strange that there was a bad reaction to a ' I can't breathe' meme and only positive comments on all the school shootings memes I have posted ... It's a strange world out there ! :~)

First off, why are you sending emails of memes? Do you not have a text phone? Or a social media? Or a conversation medium on your computer? Or close proximity to your work mate who you could just show the memes to physically? Emails are the last thing anyone would use when sending memes.

Secondly, I think you can be the judge of what memes to send or not. It doesn’t need to have an NSFW for you to have basic common sense and say “well maybe I won’t send him THIS one.”

Let's face it--this is a DARK HUMOR stream. WE ALL KNOW that MOST folks DON'T share our LOVE OF DARK HUMOR.

I'M the one who posted the first DEAD BABY JOKE.

Imagine SCROLLING THROUGH THAT, getting called into someone else's office, and the OFFICE MANAGER -- WHO HAD A MISCARRIAGE -- goes to your office and SEES THAT on your screen!!

My 69-year old cousin's 41-YEAR OLD SON RECENTLY DIED in his sleep, completely unexpected, leaving a wife and kids. I've had to STOP POSTING the DEATH ANGEL and other DEATH MEMES on FB ... at least for several months ...

Imagine if you WORKED AT HIS COMPANY and had something like THIS displaying when he came in --

And let's be clear that it's not JUST about DARK HUMOR or DEATH either. It applies to political, or ANY other kind of meme that MANY folks could get in trouble for for having it displayed at work and seen by a boss, etc.

Wow, what a hyper coincidence that someone would be looking at your phone at the exact time you were looking at a miscarriage meme and the boss of the company just so happened to also have a miscarriage.

I’ll post miscarriage memes whenever the heck I want. The fact that an actual miscarriage happened doesn’t change that. It’s a meme. Get over it.

They are user saying mark it NSFW, not saying not to post it. Which is very reasonable

I read the meme. I know what he said.

Yeah -- try telling something like that to your female boss in a company with 18 employees and you're the only guy, etc.

And, no, it's not about "oh--that happened to you".

What would I tell my cousin? "HEY -- SO YOUR KID AND BUSINESS PARTNER DIED, LEAVING A WIFE AND YOUNG KIDS. IT'S JUST A DAMN MEME!! GET OVER IT!!"

Really??

And the same applies to LOTS of other things--not just dark humor. Two years ago major tornadoes came through Dallas and took out an 8-story office building, a Home Depot, a shopping center, and a bunch of homes about 10 miles from DOWNTOWN. Even WEATHER jokes could bother a victim of something like that.

Everything you keep saying is not only a hypothetical scenario, but also a scenario that has basically 0 percent chance of happening.

“What would I tell my cousin? "HEY -- SO YOUR KID AND BUSINESS PARTNER DIED, LEAVING A WIFE AND YOUNG KIDS. IT'S JUST A DAMN MEME!! GET OVER IT!!"”

Yes. That’s exactly what you would tell your cousin. Your problem is you can’t seem to see the fine line between offensiveness and NSFW.

“Even WEATHER jokes could bother a victim of something like that.”

What’s that? I think it’s the sound of nobody caring.

The next time anyone gets worried about offending a handful of people who were “in an incident” that they made a meme out of, I’ll let you know. Spoilers: it won’t be soon.

I’d like to point out that you posted this in more than one stream.

That's kind of the point--it doesn't apply just to dark humor, or just to politics, etc. If you look at the common descriptions of "NSFW" in stream submission criteria, they pretty much always are limited to "no nudity, skimpy bikinis, or cursing".

These are reminders that we need to stay aware of OTHER types that ALSO could also get in hot water senders OR initial recipients OR recipients to whom the initial recipients forwarded the meme, etc.

“they pretty much always are limited to "no nudity, skimpy bikinis, or cursing"”

Let’s see to it that it stays that way.

“These are reminders that we need to stay aware of OTHER types that ALSO could also get in hot water senders.”

Again. Offensive doesn’t mean NSFW. If you get offended, it’s your fault.

Sounds to me like you just got offended by somebody’s meme you saw at work.

What problems come from a meme? None, other than the ones you create for yourself by looking at it.

The only ones that create a problem are the ones that show swear words, literal violence, and literally sexual content.

Otherwise, what is so important that you literally NEED to browse the Dark_Humour stream (when you could be on any other stream while at work, or just doing your job) and also not have anybody look at the ones that might be “problematic?” Are people constantly looking at your own phone?

Not at all. It's just to remind folks that NSFW can apply to things like politics, dark humor, religion, etc.

I don't download things to my phone, I'm retired, and I live alone, so I'm not worried about anybody seeing those kinds of things when I post them on FB, etc. But, for instance, I know that if my former boss--an incompetent narcissistic pathological liar sociopath with inherited money--had seen my political memes she would have been furious.

I'm a lawyer, so I'm pretty thick-skinned. One of the things that is EVERY lawyer's obligation is to foresee "worst-case scenarios" and warn people, even people who aren't clients.

In THAT regard, I've posted the following TEMPLATE, and the description includes a link to the details that I had previously sent to some sex stream mods.

imgflip.com/memetemplate/266428342/Notice-About-Full-Nudity-unofficial
(details) imgflip.com/i/4dzl24

Here's one we occasionally repost in booty, Boobs, etc.
imgflip.com/i/32es2j

As I mentioned in this thread--several times recently I've posted a death meme on FB and then remembered "Oops! My cousin!"

I didn't post the warning just in the Dark_Humour stream. The reason I added the (See comments) is because otherwise it would not have been featured because "not Dark Humor".

“It's just to remind folks that NSFW can apply to things like politics, dark humor, religion, etc.”

It can. That doesn’t mean it should. I already told you that offensive humor isn’t necessarily NSFW humor.

“But, for instance, I know that if my former boss--an incompetent narcissistic pathological liar sociopath with inherited money--had seen my political memes she would have been furious.”

Just pointing out you still didn’t answer my question: what is so important that you literally NEED to browse the Dark_Humour stream (when you could be on any other stream while at work, or just doing your job) and also not have anybody look at the ones that might be “problematic?”

And believe me, that question has to do with you and your former narcissistic boss.

“I'm a lawyer”

No you’re not. You’re retired.

“One of the things that is EVERY lawyer's obligation is to foresee "worst-case scenarios" and warn people, even people who aren't clients.”

Oh wow, I’m so happy to be warned that people might get triggered if they see me browsing Dark_Humour or politics at work. I totally didn’t know that before you came along. Thanks for all the help.

“As I mentioned in this thread--several times recently I've posted a death meme on FB and then remembered "Oops! My cousin!"”

And that wasn’t a smart move. Especially if your cousin is that easily offended that he/she can’t laugh at her own circumstances or your jokes. I’ve made plenty of dark memes that reflect my own life and my family’s life. I don’t show it to them.
So I think the thing you need is memory.

I'll make more memes NSFW. Thank you for your concern.

Again--it's not about MAKING and POSTING NSFW memes--I REGULARLY do that.

But what triggered THIS set of posts, yes, in multiple streams, is that I posted a political meme in the PoliticsTOO stream and marked it NSFW because it makes fun of Fox News.

The NSFW was a caution to folks who might repost it, and someone commented: "NSFW?"

So I explained that I marked it that way because it might not be a good idea to forward things like political, dark humor, etc., or to post them on FB if the person's employer or the recipient's employer checks their social media.

And when forwarding, posting on social media, etc., NSFW doesn't just apply to "nudity, bikinis, cursing", it also applies to things like dirty jokes that don't contain any of those.

Here's an example of that ... [NSFW] imgflip.com/i/4sav1g

this is so controversial, but the fun stream’s definition of nsfw is imgflips definition of nsfw. nowhere does it say anything that can be offensive. please stop having this show up on my streams, i dont need to see this multiple times.
