"I would not... Even. Begin, to ... Put up all three thousand of those chairs. I would break down crying. Every chair that I would carry is a body. Every single one. "Who did this chair belong to? Did they have a boyfriend or girlfriend? How many friends did they have? What was their home life like?" I sympathize 100%.
But let's be real. Background checks won't do much. Remember that man who shot the baby aiming for the parents in road rage? Yeah, he had no record of any kind and was a staunch 2A supporter. Yet, in a fit of road rage, he decided to take a life. Background checks would have missed him.
And saying the "Mentally Ill" shouldn't have access to guns is a scapegoat for the real problems. I have my share of maladies. I have never so much as thrown a punch at anyone. Hell, I feel bad swearing at people. But with these background checks, you're saying that I shouldn't own a gun and the guy who shot the baby in Los Angeles, should.
Change the narrative."
