Some 60% of Russia's Exports and 30% of their GDP is from oil and gas.

Only 7.6% of our GDP comes from this sector. But the world is relying on Natural Gas as an alternative to Coal to combat Global Warming. The world does not produce enough Rare Earths to switch totally to solar/wind. Nor do they have the money to do so. Coal plants can be easily switched to Natural Gas and cut their CO2 emissions in half. According to all of our intelligence agencies and their EU counterparts, Russia has supported the anti-Natural Gas and Anti-pipeline movements in America and the world for at least a decade. That is why many people on the far-left feel just as emotionally committed to their "causes," as do those on the far-right. They have been conditioned using the same disinformation methods and practices.

I find it interesting people talk up a storm about their preferred energy source. . .yet very few of them will talk about nuclear.

Excellent point! There's the matter of waste disposal but nuclear energy, in my opinion, is clearly superior over renewable and fossil fuels especially.

Be in much better shape if people hadn't freaked out over Three Mile Island. Everyone thought it was going to explode/meltdown like in The China Syndrome movie.Three Mile ended up being a few busted pipes. The emergency protocols worked fine and pipes could've been easily replaced but the 'Sky Is Falling!' people got in front of the microphones before the calm people that knew what to do.

As my favorite boss used to say, "If you want an argument, choose another subject." Nuclear has been a non-starter since people over-reacted to the few mishaps. Coal and the rest of the fossil fuels do various levels of damage every day. Fission is only a problem when something breaks, some bonehead misreads a dial or something, and when fuel rods need to be tucked away for half a century. Fusion has been a pipe dream until recent breakthroughs. Bill Gates is building a demonstrator model reactor. But, until something better comes along, we will need Natural Gas.
