Most of their weaponry in the form of guns is coming up through South America, same as the cocaine - who get the guns from the high level exporting criminals in the US. The border areas are more saturated with direct gun purchases from criminals local to the border in the US.

Other criminals from the US that sell it them... and corrupt individuals in governments who received them legitimately due to military alliances and trade deals.

NetGeo had a special on this- it showed gun smugglers from CA bringing guns into mexico and who they were selling them too and what they paid for them.
It seems the USA easily obtainable guns are being sold to narco gangs because they are too difficult to obtain in Mexico. oh the irony...

Doing it LEGALLY is quite prolonged and intensive whether you attempt to purchase from a store, pawn shop or gun show... even for a handgun. Though, if you attempt to purchase from a pawn shop, they can release the firearm if the background check is held for more than 5 days (it's up to the owner of the shop) - fun fact.

Ironic that Mexico's gun laws aren't doing much to protect citizens. Same as the democratic stronghold cities with their high gun laws in the US.

Then when you look at where the guns across the border come from - oddly high gun control laws there too.

It's almost as if gun laws help the criminals.

and the guns laws in Mexico are so restrictive it is easier to buy them in the USA and smuggle them in then to buy them in Mexico so their guns laws seem to work.

Why would I find Mexico's gun laws odd? It's a different country. Do you find it strange that we don't practice ritual cabalism in the United States too? In New Zealand, it's fine in some communities.
