Race and racism are key subjects in American history — no way around it. Race has shaped countless key topics from the Founding through the Civil War, Jim Crow through the Civil Rights period, Barack Obama’s election through Donald Trump’s rise in the GOP on the bogus and racist nation that Obama wasn’t born here, George Floyd to today.
Choosing to ignore race is at least as much a political decision as choosing to teach it — *moreso,* in fact.
Across the country, Republican politicians are trying to decide what can or can’t be taught in schools. Superseding teachers’ professional judgment.
If you can’t see how that’s transparently political, you might have partisan blinders on.
