I'm disinclined to believe that she had a change of heart, as her lawyer suggests, from a reading and movie list of subjects more to the left of her long-held positions. But, just because the mob was not made up of simple "tourists," they were not all "Brown Shirters," either, especially the non-violent ones. It is important that they understand the punishment if for their actions which the court hopes to alter for the future, but not for their beliefs, which are none of the court's business.
