Yes, gas prices fluctuate — and specifically, we had a significant economic event last year called the Coronavirus Pandemic which caused travel and even regular commuting to shut down, and demand for gas (and products in general) to fall through the floor in a way we haven’t seen in a long time, maybe ever.
Maybe they heard of that one?
Now that the pandemic is ending, travel is coming back, demand for gas and other products and experiences is returning, and gas prices are rising as a result.
It’s as simple as that. A similar inflationary dynamic is occurring across the economy overall, and it’s all related to the Covid pandemic and the ending of it specifically.
Everyone wants the pandemic to end, so Trumpsters complaining about the accompanying price rises is a bit like trying to have your cake and eat it too. It would have happened under Trump too, only at a slower pace because he would have bungled the vaccination campaign and set the Covid recovery back by additional months.
Right-wingers might point to Biden actions like cancelling Keystone XL and banning fracking on federal lands, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the above dynamics.
