Conservatives are traditionalists, if someone is a traditionalist they hold on to things of the past: historic attitudes, historic values, historic behaviors and historic language.
Society is not static, it is in a state of flux. We are learning and changing all the time; society has been changing since society began.
Attitudes change, behaviors change to reflect the attitudes, language changes to describe the behaviors.
Not everyone feels secure enough in themselves to be able to cope with change, they hold on to their historic language and behaviors like a comfort blanket, under the illusion that it'll protect them from the confusing progress around them.
To traditionalists, change feels like a threat to their fragile sense of security.
They are scared about what the changes will mean for them, they are scared of the unknown.
It feels much easier and safer to them to attack and accuse than to learn and grow.
They don't see that language is changing to include and describe people who've previously not been acknowledged or accepted, they see someone trying to wrest their comfort blanket from their hands.
Generally, they're willing to believe anything that supports their comforting narrative and reject anything that doesn't fit in their small box of familiarity.
Their priority is not the truth, it's maintaining an idealized worldview.
Trump was successful to a point because he promised to protect aspects of this sheltered perspective and attack anything that conflicted with it.
When they say 'Make America Great Again, they don't really mean great. They mean Make America Familiar Again. They don't want the effort of being kind to people they don't value because it's A Lot of people.
They fail to understand that when they talk about America, they are talking about society, all of it. You don't get to pick and choose who you're including.
The right wing tendency of accusing the LGBTQ+ community of having mental health issues/predatory behavior is an effort to discredit them in the hope that they won't be perceived as part of society.
It's a typical thing to accuse your perceived persecuter of whatever behavior you are displaying. It's a thinly-veiled attempt to 'get in their first, it means if you point out that the behavior is actually theirs, they can accuse you of being a copycat.
This is exactly why the right-wing/Conservatives/traditionalists bang on and on and on about how sensitive liberals/lefties/Democrats are!
