The OP said "in modern times". The 1940s were still less than 100 years ago and there are still WW II vets alive and kicking.
Plus, Fauci has been getting it wrong since the early 1980s when he said that HIV/AIDS was transmitted via casual contact (not by semen or blood) and that it would kill 50 - 100% that contracted it.
