This goes from funny to scary in 2 seconds flat, once you realize this is what the school system pumps out sprinkled with Marxism and a rainbow flag on top.

Yes, because they can't allow their teachers and their administrators to look bad.

It is because pass fail rates determine federal funding

That's why they don't want to look bad.
Same reason why they lose their minds if a kid isn't in class...they don't care about the child, they care about the $$$ they get for the child being present.

And people wonder why we're the laughingstock of the educated world.

[image deleted] Schools nowadays are crap anyway, so why bother showing up? You learn more being in the real world anyway.

Nah. Private schools by and large are fantastic, with rigorous academic curriculums and great placement rates into universities.

[image deleted] Not everyone can afford the tuition of private school, believe it or not. Sure, if you got the the money, go to private school, but don't expect a whole lot of other people to also have that opportunity.

You didn't ask about policy regarding that, so I didn't offer any. However, if you'd like to delve into that realm, may I suggest we take some of the hundreds of billions we waste annually on our public schools and put them towards voucher programs for private schools instead? Award them based off applications by those under a certain income level in a given area and boom; instant results.

You realize not everyone's going to be able to get a voucher, right? There are still going to be people forced to go to public schools. Vouchers don't solve the public school problem, they're a band aid, and an ineffective one at that. Also, the vouchers are for charter schools, not private schools. Charter schools are controlled by a private entity, but are still subject to whatever guideline and restrictions the state has in place in exchange for money from the state, while a private school is completely private and gets no money from the state.

You're not proposing a better solution. If you can think of one, I'm all ears. As it stands, more kids will be disenfranchised by our current system than would be under one that gives them government money that they can put towards paying for a private education.

And you have to realize, we spend more on education annually than we do funding the military. That's a f**kton of cash that's being WASTED annually. You could pay for a heck of a lot of kids to attend far superior schools with that kind of dough.

In the end, we need to do something, because this notion that throwing more and more money into the public system will somehow fix problems that become more and more pronounced annually is just fantastically flawed.

[image deleted] Just to be clear, your solution is to put as many kids into charter and private schools as possible, which on average are more expensive than public schools, so you'll have to spend even MORE money on education, plus you'll still have to pay for all the public schools because most people will still be stuck in the public school system anyway. So you basically wind up spending even more on education and only a handful of people will come out better for it, assuming that the problems in public schools don't just go with those kids to the charter/private schools. Remind me again why I have to propose a better solution? Because just doing nothing is still a better proposal than yours. But I'll humor you and give you my solution: Stop telling our kids they must pursue a college degree to be successful (vastly reduces the demand for college, making college cheaper and eliminating the need for most college debt), stop forcing kids to participate in classes that they don't care about and are failing (reduces classroom sizes and frees up those classes for those who actually have an interest in the subject), and push our kids who don't care about school to either take an apprenticeship, start a business, or just enter the workforce (gets teens into the workforce faster and experience the real world; apprenticeships get you into well paying careers such as electrician, plumber, or coding/web developer). Boom. Less student loans being taken out, smaller classroom sizes for those interested in what high school or college offers, people with some skill but don't see a need for high school going into apprenticeships and getting good careers that are in demand, and people who just don't care can enter the workforce and get on with life. Not to mention the millions of dollars saved from not keeping kids locked up in classes they don't care about forced to learn facts they will most likely never use again because they were fed a lie by society that you absolutely must have a college degree to succeed in life.

Agree w/ IGK that you definitely had your thinking cap on for that one, OP! College is highly overrated...I only got the degree to placate my parents as they wanted it for me. When I read a decade ago that Black Studies, Gay & Lesbian studies and similar courses can contribute to getting a degree in our NWO society, it really lowered the value of it to the point of ridiculousness. Plus the fact that colleges push less qualified people ahead of others more qualified makes it just another equity endeavor. Btw, let us know when you run for office...:)

Now you're using the thinking cap! Well done! I approve of your suggestion.
