It really isn't the baby's fault.

Some people have no sense of what is civil and reasonable and even discussable. They have fantasies of what 'makes a women' and 'when this happens" and "how so." How can you as another comment notes: get through to them? You cannot, so don't even bother.

That's what I'd like to know. I'm in NO WAY downplaying the horrible reality that an 11-year old is pregnant. However, you have to recognize that clearly a majority in Ohio view the developing human in her as having the same right to a life and future as the rest of us.

Incidentally, this is one reason I'm so avidly tracking the process of artificial wombs; with those we could still carry the baby safely until it's born, but also spare the girl the hell that she's being forced to endure.

When you force that 11-year-old to carry that baby- a thing she is not emotionally, mentally, or physically prepared to do, who is going to care for it? Who is going to care for her during the pregnancy?

Once it's born, then what?

But until then it's okay to force her to endure it? A 10 yr old girl in Mexico who was raped by a family member was forced to carry the child, begged to get an abortion and they refused her. She tried to commit suicide several times. This is how children end up abused, neglected, abandoned in trash bins. But then you want to cut off welfare, too. How's an 11 year old going to support herself and her child? Republicans only give a shit until the baby's born. After that, who GAF?

So why are you making the girl suffer? Why force HER to carry the baby?

The dad isn't going to be carrying that pregnancy. And I suspect the quality of life for that baby, once it's born, will be super low given that the employment prospects for 11-year-olds are pretty dire.

It's a horrible situation, but babies shouldn't be killed for their father's crimes. And there's always adoption.

A human being at any stage of its life has equal rights as any other human being in any other stage of its life...To use another animal for an example, I couldn't go crushing turtle eggs on the beach and tell the authorities, "Oh, I'm not breaking any endangered species laws or interfering with turtle livelihoods because these aren't turtles in the colloquial sense."

As John already said, you don't "rectify" a situation by killing your problem. Now you've got two problems, which are a dead human being and another one in trauma. The baby has to be born, but NO ONE is saying she shouldn't get every iota of support needed to get through such a situation. And, to address your last point, NO ONE is saying she needs to keep the child or in any way care for it; we have a foster system for a reason. It's a sucky system that needs serious help, but it exists to be used for a reason.
