I totally believe this to be true but if you have a link supporting the figures it would be helpful. also a breakdown by party affiliation, I am sure would be enlightening

I think the numbers are from Harry Browne's books which he wrote for his presidential campaigns in 1996 and 2000.

And I wouldn't be surprised if things have gone further downhill since then.
