I'd like to add one other thing.

Great job on asking a question about something you wanted to know more about.

But you've begun with an assumption- critical race theory is bad.

A better approach would be to ask - what is critical race theory?

Then once you've learned what it's all about, decide on the good/bad part.

Have some grace (and an upvote), almost everyone approaches most topics with preconceived notions about them. Great commentary, thank you!

I can.

Critical Race Theory says that in order to move towards a society where everyone is treated equally, we have to acknowledge where we have not treated people equally both historically and today.

It rejects the idea that "what is in the past is in the past and stays in the past" and acknowledges that today's society (it's laws and cultural norms) is built on that past.

Once you understand a problem you can move to fix it.

Yes, groups of people were treated terribly in the past and that treatment has placed their chldren (and children's children) at a disadvantage compared to other groups. Often, these obstacles are incredibly difficult to overcome (like escaping poverty), and are made almost impossible by society insisting those obstacles don't exist.

Bro, if you stick to history to punish the future, you get division, because you want to punish people who don’t even have a HISTORY with slavery.

If you're an American, you live in a country built by slavers. You do have a history with it.

CRT asks you to examine the connections and sever them.

You refusing to do so allows the system to continue.

Built on slavers my ass. It was built by people who shed their blood to get freedom. Sure, a few states allowed slaves, BUT BUILT ON SLAVERS MY F**KING ASS.

Wow, you're in for a lot of shock when you go read about the people who founded the country.

We were founded by slavers. The sooner you come to terms with that, the sooner we can fix the lingering issues.

Also, name a country, and it has used slaves.
2 ups, 3y,

Whataboutistan. Not only did it never have slaves, it also isn't relevant in a discussion of the history of the United States being bound to slavery.
1 up, 3y,

United States, yes, had a connection to slavery, but we had an entire war to get rid of that, with thousands spilling their blood to abolish slavery.
2 ups, 3y
And what do you think happened after that?

Things just magically got better? Everyone had a house, a high paying office job or trade, and 2 cars?

Or do you think they were still systemically oppressed? That they were denied equal status and treatment for generations to this day?
0 ups, 3y
And guess what? They still got them from the rights of protest that they got after a bunch of white men spilled their blood.

They fought for their rights afterwards with the rights FOUND FATHERS WHO OWNED SLAVES gave them.
1 up, 3y
The Founders said that rights were inalienable. Then they made sure that Blacks and women didn't get any of those rights.

Exactly, it’s not secluded by race

And guess what, those are the same men who gave us the rights to give those people the rights to free them selves. Besides, people like Hamilton never had any slaves.

Those same guys put in the constitution that slaves only counted as part of a person. Could have outlawed it right then.

But they didn't.

Including the guys who didn't own slaves.

Slave owning was a popular thing at that time, hell, even the Africans had slaves of warfare.

Those Africans were wrong too.

They didn’t want to lose the south’s support because they were kind of running an entire rebellion.
2 ups, 3y
Benjamin Franklin owned 2 slaves. And his paper regularly ran sale notices for people being held as slaves.

Ben didn't live in the South.

John Hancock was from Massachusetts

John Jay was from New York.

And this isn't widely taught, but the Constitution wasn't written during the Revolution. Or even immediately after it.

We have this idea we went from Revolution to Constitutional Democracy right away. But the truth is very different. It wasn't even the first form of government. The first government of the United States was the Articles of Confederation.

We had that for a decade. A decade.

The Constitution was written in 1787. 11 years after 1776.

11 years.

More than a decade after the revolution was over. They still kept slavery.

Slavers gonna enslave.

If you were trying to better yourself would you think it would help or hinder you if someone constantly beat you over the head with the mistakes you've made in the past? Even blaming you and refusing to forgive a wrong done by someone that wasn't you? As far as I can see it, CRT is putting salt in the wound of racism, it's not helping to heal it.
2 ups, 3y,

If you don't speak up. If you don't work to rectify the racism and inequity that still exists in this society, you are to blame.

Because you do have the power to help end it.

Question what's the difference between enequity and inequality? I'm all about ending it trust me I'm a woman of color a minority. Although being a conservative makes my opinion not really matter in the main stream world.
0 ups, 3y
There's all sorts of crossover between inequity and inequality.

Inequity is a lack of fairness and justice.
Inequality is a lack being treated the same.

Thats how the world works. If you can’t defend your land, you don’t deserve it. Hell, the Roman Empire fell eventually after a thousand years. You know why? Because eventually they couldn’t defend their land.
1 up, 3y
As long as we're clear that might makes right is your moral philosophy. Don't claim to be a Christian.
0 ups, 3y
It’s not moral philosophy, it’s just not seeing the world through rose tinted glasses. Also, I never claimed to be and am not a Christian, lmao.

So if someone can take something from you by force, they're entitled to, as long as they call it war.

you know, a lot of countries and empires way before the US even existed were built on slavery yet not a single word about them.

Egypt, china, germany, middle eastern countries, Rome, greece, Soviet union, France, the mongols, japan, britian, vikings, latin america.. the list goes on.

Yet no one cares except the slavery that "Built the US". Suddenly its a bad thing.

Wow.

Wow.

Did not expect a "you're not critical of counties you don't live in" defense.

Just wow.

I also don't care about ancient Gual.

I care about this country because I am a citizen and have a say in what happens here.

The intention: to help people not be racist.

The result: making racist assumptions about people, favoring color over merit and integrity, and taking Marxist theories that once applied to class (characteristics that can be changed) and applying them to biological aspects (things that cannot be changed).

This guy explains it better than I do: https://www.city-journal.org/how-to-fight-critical-race-theory

So does this woman: https://twitter.com/iandprior/status/1392292044975087617
