Hmm, I like this idea

I've had this idea for months.

Requirements:
10,000,000 or more points
Top 25 in top users section
350 or more followers

Perks:
Automatic approval in any stream
Unique icon(s)
Abilities to moderate ones own memes in any stream (not anybody else's memes, just theirs)

Maybe a little nerfed-

Perhaps nerf it to 1 mil points and in the top 250 with 320 or more?

1 mil is way too low and I feel as if it would be better to have a smaller group of them rather than almost anybody.

10 mil is too, WAY TOO high. If they had at least 1 mil, it'd be fairer

Again, 1 million is way too low. It would be very easy to get verified with those requirements. I'm betting someone could achieve all of that in less than 6 months. It might help imgflip if it's harder to get it because a lot of people will try to get it and be on this site longer and try to achieve it. I don't think many users should have it, Only top tier users like RayDog or who am I and people of that caliber.

BUT they ALSO have to get on the leaderboard. Not really easy THAT and the fact you have to get 320 followers.

Dude I've had 4 accounts and on two of them, I was very well into the leaderboard. And even if, I know these are hard. That's what I'm trying to get at. I want it to be hard for people to get verified so imgflip can be more competitive rather than having some random dude be 1# for a few years. I doubt this will ever happen but if it does it could be very beneficial.

But 10,000,000 is too much

No. 1 mill is a challenge to get.

But what if we had a featured image threshold?

It's not hard. It just takes a while with not that much effort. 10 mil will require actual people who use the site for a long time and people who deserve it.

Think of the number of accounts verified on Twitter versus the userbase, and compare it to the number of Imgflip users with 1 mil plus versus the Imgflip userbase. They kind of balance out.
Beyond that, they still need to reach Top Users and the follower cap. If they can manage that so quickly, they're well deserving of verification.

The 10 million point total is not a good idea since only three users fit that criteria and two of those users aren't even active anymore. Then the whole "verified profile" idea would be pointless.

Unless you're talking about having at least ONE of these requirements. If that's the case, I'd just eliminate the first requirement and say top 25 on the leaderboard. But I'd just tweak it a little with these requirements:

1) Must have 1 million points or more.
2) Must have 100 followers or more.
3) Must have submitted at least two (2) or more memes in the past 30 days.
4) Must be active (submitted at least two (2) or more memes every 30 days for one (1) year or more.

If you meet ALL of these requirements you get the "verified profile." If you haven't submitted at least two memes in a 30 day period, you lose the "verified profile" status.

I would tweak it a little bit but I actually really like the idea of the 30 day post requirement. Maybe extend it a little bit for users like raydog who frequently take breaks but are very popular. 100's a little low though. I know many users who have achieved that in less than two months, all overrated but still. Here's an updated version

Must submit 5 or more memes in one month and will get a warning if they don't, three warning means they lose it completely
Must have been on the sight for one year or longer

We wouldn't want it too easy, but not too difficult either. For most users, 1 million isn't easy, but for those users where 1 million is easy, they definitely wouldn't be able to rush the one year thing. And I think you should have to keep the name you chose originally for at least one year or you lose the status. I think the whole reason for a verified profile is people recognize the name and if you keep changing it, users will start wondering why "new" users already have a verified profile.

Or maybe there could be tiers of verified users. Tier 1 would be the highest.

Tier 4) Must have 1 million points, been a user for at least 1 year, and have at least 100 followers.

Tier 3) Must have 2.5 million points, been a user for 1 year, and have at least 150 followers.

Tier 2) Must have at least 5 million points, been a user for 2 years, and have at least 200 followers.

Tier 1) Must have 10 million points, been a user for 5 years, and have at least 500 followers.

Tiers 1 and 2 you would have to submit no less than 5 memes a week.

Tiers 3 and 4 you would have to submit no less than 2 memes a week.

Perks for tiers 3 and 4 would be special icons and a spot on the front page of fun that recognizes one of your memes.

Perks for tier 2 would be a special icon and automatic approval.

Perks for tier 1 would be a special icon, automatic approval, and be allowed to have a profile photo.

This site isn't that big. You have to be here for a bit to know every imgflip famous person. So it would make sense to give it to the top tier. People who anyone on this site would know. Like RayDog or Who am I

I don’t see a reason to do this, my reasoning behind this is because most sites that have “verified” people are either people famous on that site or another, or they are celebrities.

This is intended for people famous on this site.

I completely understand, and I like the idea, what I’m trying to say is that most verified people are famous in real life.

As soon as user accounts are tied to real identities - those who choose to be (or are selected/allowed) to be verified will have a target on their backs.

All the cancel culture of the other social media platforms will come here, and the comedic freedom this site enjoys will become a thing of the past.

I see your concern but nothing about the accounts themselves will change. They only get a few perks if verified and it really would only happen to top tier users.
