Tribal territories and the slave trade ranged over present-day borders. Some Native American tribes held war captives as slaves prior to and during European colonization. It continued after Europeans arrived. Slavery and slave trading existed in Africa prior to European colonization of the Americas. Europeans took advantage of the slave trade that already existed. The context is needed to place slavery in 1619 in the proper context.

You are correct. And back then slavery was a normal part of life on every continent on earth.
