A general observation over the last 6 months:

Yeah, it's not a nation's problem, it's a world problem. I know there are non-Trump supporters who don't trust the vaccination but I've observed a 'let the old and weak die for the economy' feel from right wing media for the past year.

Young liberals want the older generations dead anyway.

It's always Canada.

If they see one death from the vaccine, they are immediately suspicious about the vaccine, never mind the 500,000+ dead from the virus itself

Death “from” the vaccine is debatable. I haven’t seen any proof to conclude the vaccine killed anyone. Correlation isn’t causation. I know a guy that gut his first shot then went into the hospital a week or so after with Covid. Was there a week. Ventilators etc. Then went home and he died a free days later. No one said how but I’m betting it was a blood clot. Not brought on by the vaccine but by covid itself that he got from being careless either before the shot or after because he never took the right precautions anyway.

I've read about how Covid-19 is more likely to cause clotting than any vaccine. The studies are still ongoing.

A 99% survival rate of something so widespread is horrifying.

It doesn't sound as bad as 3 million dead. Someday we could get something like in the movies, with a 25% survival rate. This could be just a warm-up test. I've never been very worried about getting this virus though, just worried about my older family members.

You what else has a “99% survival rate?” Jumping off a 10 story building.

That statistic is meaningless. “Survival rate” counts all people. Including those that never contracted Covid. People that use “survival rates” as a meaningful statistic are willfully ignorant or just plain stupid.

I'm treading the middle ground and avoiding anyone who is worried about getting sick while also avoiding the shot until we have at least a year's worth of data on its long-term safety.

I can understand a little distrust of the government telling us to get the shot but I don't think scientists are out to get us (or any group) on this one. There is a chance for some kind of long term effect from the shot but long-term effects have been found from the actual virus. It's still being studied, but one thing different from the flu is the possible small amount of heart damage from Covid-19.

I'm not saying anything malicious was done by anyone, and I absolutely agree that people in the government have our best interest in mind when they advocate for the shot...I'm just not ruling out the possibility that there may be unintended consequences down the line. With my particular health situation in mind, it is much safer for me overall to just wait a year or two, see what the data says, and then get it. The consequences of getting COVID now vs getting the shot and maybe getting some freak complication we couldn't foresee make it clear that caution hurts nobody and probably helps me a lot.
