It depends on how frequently a penny is used compared to it's cost in manufacturing.
If the average penny is used enough times for a tax revenue of ¢2, it's rough manufacturing cost, to be made from the value it represents, then it is worth keeping around. Otherwise, no.
It is mathematically improbable, if not impossible, to have every cash transaction end with a 5 or a 0. Only in a true cashless society could pennies - and of course all other coins and bills - be eliminated. There are several reasons why we shouldn't have one. So we're stuck with pennies.
Actually, No, You can still save them because there's something to make less mess on every pennies, including nickels, dimes, quarters, and halves by finding a product to sort out each change in each cylinder types and save them.
